From the cover – ‘Alfred Worsley Montagu was a descendent of the 1st Earl of Manchester. He was born in 1860 in India, where his father served in the India Army. His mother, Emily Ward, was born in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.
At the age of 17 he left behind his conformable life in England and emigrated to Australia.
There he found a career in music-hall as a actor and songwriter.
In 1898 Alfred returnrd to England with his family and set up as a theatrical agent in London.
He died in 1912 and is buried in Actors’ Acre, Brookwood Cemetry, Woking, Surrey.
